Item Description
Two generations of marcasite crystals are festooned on the large druzy quartz-covered sculptural matrix on this showy and rich old-timer from the famous Sweetwater Mine of Missouri. Most of the piece is covered with sharp, lustrous, brassy, 1st generation plates with a starkly contrasting field of 2nd generation, matte luster, metallic-gray, plates near one edge. 864 grams or 1.9 pounds mass. Ex John Whatley Collection and acquired from Gary Hammontree in 1977, who got it from Mike Corrigan. John was a well-known Georgia collector (1939-2022). He had many interests and hobbies. His favorite hobby was collecting rocks and minerals and he was a member of the Augusta and Aiken, SC Gem and Mineral Society.
