Manganvesuvianite (rare)

Item Description

Manganvesuvianite is not to be confused with the manganese-bearing variety of Vesuvianite, it's a valid species, first approved in 2000, and the type locality is the N'Chwaning II Mine in South Africa. This piece is from that very locality and is one of the best examples we've had to offer. This small cabinet display specimen is loaded with dozens up fine quality, highly lustrous, well-formed, prismatic crystals of a very dark red hue measuring up to 9 mm. There are crystals on both sides of the specimen, and while they are contacted on the back, some of the crystals on the front are in very good condition,. showing attractive four-sided pyramidal terminations. With some strong backlighting, you can see that several of the crystals show an intense red hue (similar to Hübnerite when it's gemmy), a sign of the Mn3+ in the chemical composition of the material. While Vesuvianite is found in a wide range of colors, the dark red Manganvesuvianite is arguably the strongest hue you'll see for the material. Priced in the inventory at $1,250.
