Item Description

Manganoan smithsonite is one of the rarest and most desirable Tsumeb varietals, as the pieces came from a small one-time find in the mid-1980s. Glassy, gemmy, sharp, rose-red rhombs to 1.0 cm are studded on the 3-dimensional sulfide matrix on this classic and excellent specimen from the famous Tsumeb Mine. The combination of the crystal's sharp rhombic shape, translucency and color are distinctive for the one best pocket ever found of this very rare manganese-rich smithsonite variety (other pink smithsonites are colored by COBALT, not by MN). These are very fine gemmy smithsonites with good color, even with the bit of periphery wear. Valued $900-1000.
