Old-time, RARE and important manganoan calcite from the famed St Andreasberg District. The very sculptural two-sided mounded plate is composed of aesthetic, stout columnar clusters of light pastel-pink, translucent prisms with beautiful, subtle satin lustre. The old miners called this the "cannon", "stalk" or "composite" crystal style. St Andreasberg is famed as one of the world's great calcite localities, was the primary gangue mineral and this is an exceptional rarity. The extensive Calcite section, pp. 345-354, in the excellent May-June, 2017 Mineralogical Record St Andreasberg Special Issue, Vol. 48, No. 3 does not mention pink manganoan calcite.
