Item Description
A very appealing specimen of manganoan calcite. The beautiful hemisphere is covered with sharp, lustrous and translucent, lightly frosted, manganoan calcite scalenohedrons. SUPER orange fluorescence. The overall specimen is in excellent condition, with the bit of periphery bruising certainly not much of a distraction. Manganoan calcite scalenohedrons of this quality and style were VERY UNCOMMON from the Kalahari Manganese Field. This EXCELLENT specimen certainly dates to the 1960s-70s, as evidenced by the style of the 3 accompanying labels. Ex Jamie Mullane Collection. I just glanced at 2 standard references for photos of Kalahari mineral species, the Manganese Adventure and The Desmond Sacco Collection. NEITHER of these fine publications has a photo of a manganoan calcite of this style. Current value???
