Item Description
Specimens of Manganite you would think would be plentiful in the rich manganese ores of the Kalahari. In fact, they are quite hard to come by. Very few good ones like this are out there. This piece originally came to us from the collection of Charlie Key. In fact, before Charlie's collection, I cannot say that I ever held a Manganite from these rich manganese mines. But Charlie had a stash, among them this superb large miniature of platy, thick manganite crystals to 1.8 cm in size, free of matrix. It is significant for the district for this species. Fine quality all around, with the only damage existing around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Valued at $1,500. Ex Gerry Morvell Collection.
