Item Description

While the Caland Pit is well-known for its attractive and fine quality Manganite specimens, I can't recall seeing a single pseudomorph from this locality. This is not only the first pseudomorph we've had from this mine, but it's a really attractive three-dimensional piece featuring well-formed, sharp, pseudomorphs of Manganite with a semi-metallic, grey-black color that have replaced rhombic crystals of Calcite on an oxidized matrix. The largest crystal measures 2.1 cm across. The central portion of crystal is in very good condition, although the periphery of the specimen is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall. I have to stress the fine quality of the pseudomorphs as they are notably sharp and pristine, with very little distortion, retaining the original crystal form of the Calcites. A superb piece for any pseudomorph collector! Valued at $750. From the noted pseudomorph collection of Dr. Wouter van Tichelen of Belgium.
