Manganite on Quartz (fine locality specimen)

A fine quality and eye-catching specimen of these uncommon Manganites from the Caland Pit in Ontario. This piece hosts semi-"rose"-shaped groups of dark black metallic Manganite (the entire cluster measures 4.8 cm across at it longest dimension) perched on iron-coated Quartz crystals on matrix. If you look closely, you can see the "roses" are comprised of thin blades, distinct and certainly crystallized, so it's not just a "mass" of Manganite. It's not easy to find showy matrix specimens of this material, especially on the contrasting Quartz crystals. Most pieces I've seen over the years are somewhat difficult to display and "jumbled", but this one is very displayable and really attractive in person. No damage on the display side, only a small contacted area on the back which cannot be seen from the front. Choice, fine quality material from this old iron mine that closed in 1979.
