Item Description

Intergrown, splendent, parallel-growth, jet-black manganite crystals form an expressive and aesthetic two-sided small cabinet from the famous mines at Ilfeld. The crystals on this striking piece reach 4.6 cm. The two primary crystals on top, to 2.5 cm, are pristine. The jackstraw intergrowth of the crystals is remarkable. Yes, both sides are contacted, but the front display is very impressive! This remains very fine, highly and showy representative example of the species and famous locale at a reasonable price point. These old pieces came out in about 1865-1890. See the excellent Mineralogical Record article in 2010 Vol. 41, No. 6. Valued at $2000
