Item Description
Splendent, striated, jet-black manganite prisms are densely intergrown on this very fine, rich and attractive small cabinet from old-time finds at the famous Type Locality - Ilfeld. The prisms reach 1.5 cm and the interior is pristine on this solid manganite specimen. This historic old-timer is NOT just a "black rock" by any means and has several fine display views. Primary production was from 1820 to 1890 and this would date from that era, and shows the classic style we see in history books! See the 2010 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 41, No. 6. Fine crystals with good size, rich coverage and high luster make this an excellent and highly representative small cabinet. Valued $2500-plus.
