The famous Montreal Iron Mine is famous for its classic Hematite, Barite and Calcite (Manganese-bearing) specimens, but fine quality Manganites are VERY hard to find. This piece is a gorgeous, highly aesthetic crystallized group loaded with dozens of razor-sharp, lustrous, dark grey-black colored blades of Manganite measuring up to 8 mm long, free of matrix. The true indicator that this piece is from the Montreal Mine is the associated "spray" of soft pinkish-beige colored Barite intergrown on the side of the piece. This habit and color of Barite is unmistakable for the locale, and makes for a fantastic contrast against the Manganite. No major damage anywhere, and it looks better in person!
