Item Description
The Kalahari Manganese Field is South Africa has been the source of some of the most attractive, distinctive and iconic minerals from anywhere in the world. The namesake species for manganese (Manganite) is found is various forms/styles from multiple localities in this area, and this specimen is a great example of this fine quality and beautiful material. This piece was mistakenly labeled as coming from "Namibia", but it's quite obviously from the N'Chwaning II Mine in South Africa. The piece is filled with excellent, highly lustrous, thin bladed black bladed crystals of Manganite measuring up to about 6 mm, which have formed tightly intergrown "rosette" formations all over the front/display side of the piece. No major damage I can see, and quite showy in person.
From the collection of Colin Manlove.
