Item Description

An unbelievably rare specimen of the manganese lanthanum sorosilicate Manganiandrosite-(La) (formerly Androsite-(La)) from one of only TWO localities for the species. Originally, this species was discovered on Petalon Peak, Andros Island, in the Aegean Islands Department of Greece. It was simply named Androsite, then Androsite-(La), then Manganiandrosite-(La) by the Epidotes Subcommittee of the CNMMN in 2006 (this is the same group who took away the well-known species of Hancockite and renamed it Epidote-(Pb) only to have it mercifully changed in 2015 due to a proposal by Olav Revheim and Vandall King to revert the name back to Hancockite). This is a good example of Manganiandrosite-(La) with a noteworthy reddish brown hue. Sure it's a micro specimen, but it's the ONLY piece of this species that we've seen, and comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals, which immediately increases the value.
