Item Description
A striking, stout, 9.0 x 8.8 cm tall x 7.3 cm, 360-degree knob dominates this sculptural, rich and impressive large manganese-bearing calcite from the famous polymetallic mines at Madan. The densely intergrown, complex mounded rhombohedrons have pretty pink color. The glassy, lustrous, translucent rhombs have both stepped-growth and smooth faces, adding character. Modest basal periphery wear in the front and out-of-sight on the back bruising to the knob are noted, but are certainly only minimal detractions. Neon-orange LW UV fluorescence. 1459 grams or 3.2 pounds mass. Ex Paul Zerfass Collection No. 153. Large Mn-calcites of this lustrous and glassy quality are uncommon from Madan and this is an exceptional large example.
