Item Description

Mammothite is a very rare metallic sulfate discovered in 1985 and named for the famous Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine at Tiger, Arizona. It is an oxidation product of ore metal refining slags reacting with salt water. Powder-blue, microcrystals of mammothite are clustered on top of the sculptural, vuggy, slag matrix. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. He must have acquired this piece just prior to his untimely death in 1987.
