Malachite with Rosasite and Hydrozincite (rare locality)

Secondary ore minerals are typically not the first thing that people think of when it comes to minerals of southern California, but there are a good number of localities in San Bernardino County that produce some attractive and fine quality examples. This piece is from the Mohawk Mine and features beautiful, velvety, forest-green colored groups of Malachite measuring 1.1 cm across associated with light blue Rosasite along with minor off-while Hydrozincite on oxidized matrix. The piece is in good shape overall, and is certainly one of the best display quality specimens of this fairly to find material that we've had to offer. Most of the Malachite you'll see from this area is micro material, so to have eye-catching groups on matrix like this is a big deal for the locality. Priced at $950 in the inventory. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
