Item Description
This is NOT a contemporary piece, as it mined a few decades ago, and comes from a fairly uncommon Colorado locality in the southwestern corner of the state. The Copper Rivet Mine lies several miles north of the Cashin Mine, and specimens are almost never seen for sale on the market these days. The piece features a coverage of rich emerald green spherical Malachite which play host to micro crystals of deep navy blue Azurite on oxidized matrix. For a Colorado specimen, this is a pretty good piece from the Western Slope, but best seen with magnification. I haven't seen many specimens from this mine over the years, and I don't think there will be many of them available in the future. We have photographed the specimen under with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you're a Colorado collector, or a collector of secondary ore minerals, this is a good opportunity to add a hard to find piece from this lesser known locality in western Colorado.
