Malachite replacing Azurite

This item is part of a special benefit auction for the Rice Museum of Rocks & Minerals (ricenorthwestmuseum.org). Items are either deaccessions from the museum's collection or were donated by generous supporters listed below.

This is a large display plate with interesting styles of both azurite and malachite, surely an older specimen (but we are not sure when) from the early 1900s era. It is not a style of crystals for either, that is commonly seen. Small disc-shaped crystals also show pseudmorphism caught in progress: some partial replacement, where the azurites are altering into malachites, and many that have already changed. It is a beautiful carpet of small crystals, in typical Bisbee matrix.
