Item Description

These old French classics are some of the most iconic minerals from early European mineral collecting. This piece is a classic "floater" thumbnail specimen of the well-known and iconic Malachite pseudomorphs after Cuprite. This piece shows a beautiful combination of textbook octahedral and dodecahedral form with a mixture of deep green and reddish-brown hues in spots (due to oxidation). Although the Malachite pseudomorphs after Cuprite from Onganja, Namibia are typically bigger, they don't have the superb crystal form of these amazing old classics from Chessy. This is a good quality specimen considering the age of the piece, and it is very difficult for collectors to obtain fine quality piece of this material on the market. This specimen was mined circa mid 1800s. A great little thumbnail for any collector, a collector of European classics, or anyone who appreciates secondary ore minerals.
