Item Description
A good quality, aesthetic cabinet-sized display specimen of this hard to find material from Kazakhstan featuring a somewhat arborescent, branching group of Native Copper, which has been largely pseudomorphed by minty green colored Malachite, and associated with a bit of deep red Cuprite in spots. I've seen Malachite specimens replacing Azurite from this locality, but VERY few pieces of this particular material of Malachite after Copper were found, and we haven't had one in quite some time from Dzhezkazgan. These specimens came out for a brief time in the early 1990s, and are now quite rare on the market. Valued $1,800.
This piece is from the collection of the well-known mineral dealer and collector Richard ("Rich") A. Kosnar (1946-2007) from Colorado, who was the namesake for the rare potassium zirconium phosphate, Kosnarite.
