Item Description
A beautiful specimen of Malachite pseudomorphing after Azurite forming attractive "rose"-shaped groups on matrix from the classic locality at Morenci. All of the preexisting Azurite has been replaced by the forest green Malachite, and I can't see any remaining Azurite anywhere. This area has produced some of the most attractive Azurite and Malachite combinations from any locality in the world. Obviously, Bisbee is the premier Arizona locality for Azurite specimens, but Morenci produced some truly gorgeous specimens over the years. This attractive display specimen is in great shape on the all around, with very little damage. There is a small amount of soft green colored Chrysocolla on the matrix of the piece for a nice touch. We rarely see good "rose" pseudomorphs from Morenci on the market, let alone multiple "roses" on matrix like this, so if you collect secondary ore minerals, copper species or minerals of Arizona, don't miss out on this striking miniature sized display piece for a great price. Valued at $1,250 in the inventory. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
