Item Description

A fantastic older specimen of the famous secondary copper material from Ajo featuring chatoyant green Malachite which has pseudomorphed after a big blocky solitary crystal Azurite measuring 3.3 cm on matrix. A second "sidecar" pseudomorph can be seen on the piece as well for a nice touch. There are a handful of localities in Arizona which have produced world-class pseudomorphs of Azurite after Malachite, and top examples from Ajo are certainly in the upper tier. It's rare to find such a perfect isolated crystal like this on matrix from this locality, and it's a highly desirable display specimen for any fan of Arizona minerals, copper species, pseudomorphs or specifically pieces from the New Cornelia Mine. Valued $3,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#70 US), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
