Malachite pseudomorph after Azurite (ex Bob Reynolds Collection)

An attractive, small cabinet display specimen from the world's most famous locality. A classic 4.6 cm pseudomorph of velvety, chatoyant, forest green colored Malachite has replaced a preexisting Azurite crystal which is aesthetically flaring off of the thin layer of pearly Dolomite matrix underneath. The textbook habit of the original Azurite crystal is still beautifully preserved by the Malachite. On the lower edge of the piece a sharp, lustrous, silvery colored Cerussite crystal can be seen. The back of the piece reveals a tiny bit of navy blue Azurite that is still un-pseudomorphed. The left edge of the piece is incomplete where it was detached from the pocket wall, but it's not broken, just incomplete. Highly displayable and truly desirable in terms of the classic locality and the association. It's common knowledge now that the value of Tsumeb specimens is on the rise, and fine quality specimens are now highly sought after, and prized more than ever by dealers and collectors alike. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
