Item Description

Magnificent pseudomorph of Malachite after Azurite "swords" on a contrasting matrix of Limonite encrusted Malachite. Matrix specimens of this size are very rare from here! At first glance one would think maybe it is from Arizona, but it is actually from Kerrouchene, Morocco. The very top monoclinic Malachite crystal has a velvety texture with a forest green color that measures 3.2 x 1.8 cm and is 5 mm thick. A number of crystals have etched tips showing the complete replacement of Azurite by crystalline Malachite. The front toe of the piece has some remaining Azurite present. There is some contacting on the underneath side and some etching of crystals as noted. This Malachite pseudomorph after Azurite on matrix with the tabular bladed habit is uncommon from Kerrouchene. The individual crystal isolation on this matrix specimen makes for a truly special piece. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl.
