Item Description
Highly desirable, seldom available and showy small cabinet combination from the renowned, long extinct Mammoth-Saint Anthony Mine at Tiger. The prominent, dominating sculptural vug is lined with nicely chatoyant, fibrous Malachite pseudomorphs after Azurite crystals. Lustrous navy-blue to royal-blue Azurite crystals on the top complement tiny, contrasting Cerussite crystals with more Azurite beneath the vug. The back of the mostly Malachite matrix hosts a 1.5 cm vug lined with more Malachite pseudos after Azurite and scattered Cerussite crystals. A knob on the bottom of the piece is richly invested with more Azurite. This famous mine closed in 1953. See the 1980 Mineralogical Record Arizona-I Special Issue article in Vol. 11, No. 3. Ex Rich Kosnar Collection (1946-2007), a well-known Colorado dealer and collector. Valued at $2250 on their old label. Classic and excellent combination material from the famous locale.
