This is a very rare specimen of complex intergrowth of minerals, a well known old classic from the 1970s or early 1980s in Mexico! Calcite coated malachite pseudomorphs after azurite crystals, to 1.3 cm and a few azurite crystals, to 9 mm, are aesthetically clustered on one end of the sculptural large mounded, elongated, two-sided calcite from the historic mines at Concepcion del Oro. The glassy, very knobby, crystallized calcite is on one side a pleasing light green tint from copper inclusions. The other side and the crest host a secondary overgrowth of brown oxide-tinted calcite crystals on top of the green cuprian calcite. A fascinating and showy combination from the famed locale. Specimens like this only turn up in the older collections now, of people who bought them at the time, such as Romero and now, Hauck. From the Hauck collection of worldwide classics.
