Item Description
This Malachite after Azurite pseudomorph is atypical for Tsumeb for the shape of the crystals. Most of these are Malachite replacement of prismatic Azurite crystals and this one is distinctly after blocky, sharp Azurite crystals! There are five, intergrown, bright, variegated green, decidedly wedge-like, monoclinic crystals with relatively sharp edges still intact in a prominent group at the apex of the piece. A fractured portion of a crystal on one side and the back reveals that the replacement is nearly complete, but there is some dark blue Azurite present in the core. This quintet sits on a piece of dove-gray matrix for great contrast and presentation.
