Some of the finest quality and most easily recognizable Malachite specimens (and lapidary items) in the world have come from the famous Mashamba West Mine in the Congo. This piece is a wonderfully attractive specimen of Malachite from the renowned locality. Over the years, we have seen many of these pieces come through but they do seem to be dwindling on the market, so we might be reaching a time when there are less available. This specimen hosts a fine quality, semi-lustrous, velvety / chatoyant, darker forest-green color group of what is called "Primary" Malachite sitting atop a previous generation or more of an emerald color Malachite matrix, forming an aesthetic display piece. The earlier generation of Malachite has formed both in botryoidal groups and gorgeous "sprays". The piece was hard to photograph, but please watch the video to try to get a good idea of the three-dimensional quality, and overall beauty of the specimen. You don't often seen two generations of Malachite together like this on the same specimen.
