Item Description

A really eye-catching specimen of Malachite from the famed Milpillas Mine, which is no longer producing specimens. This showy small cabinet sized piece hosts good quality groups of medium emerald green colored Malachite, with thin prismatic crystals and radial aggregates, along with minor matrix. This is what is called "Primary" Malachite, i.e., not formed as an alteration from Azurite. You don't often seen these Malachite specimens on the market now that the oxidized zone at Milpillas has been mined through, so if you missed out on them in the 2000s-2010s, don't pass up a chance to get this one now as it's a great, eye-catching example of these soon-to-be-classics. If you collect secondary ore minerals, worldwide Malachite or specifically pieces from the Milpillas Mine (or general Mexican localities) do not miss out on this one.
Ex Dave Stoudt collection. We originally sold this piece to Dave nearly a decade ago for $475, but in subsequent years the value of these pieces has increased, and I certainly think it's closer to the $1,000 range today.
