Malachite (ex. Smithsonian) ex Jack Halpern Collection

A stunning and complexly-formed example of a banded, Malachite stalactite slice from the Haut-Katanga region in the DR Congo (formerly Zaire). The banding is highly attractive, but what makes this truly special is the exceptional, dendritic growth pattern of the Malachite in the core. It looks like a bouquet, and I am not sure how often I have seen this before. It is striking and so very unusual. To add to the allure of this small cabinet piece, it was formerly in the collection of the Smithsonian Museum.
