Item Description

A classic and rarely seen Malachite specimen from the classic Rudabanya district in Hungary. Formal mining in this area dates back to 1200's and as far back as the Neolithic Age for simple extraction of native Copper. The name Rudabanya comes from "Rud" meaninig red in allusion to the red iron-rich earth in the area. This specimen features classic, rich forest-green color, sharp, lustrous groups of Malachite on gossan matrix. You don't see these on the market these days, and these are amongst the most famous Malachites from anywhere in the world.
