Item Description

The beautiful Malachite specimens from the Onganja Mine (Emke Mine) in Namibia date back 50+ years and are some of the most distinctive examples of the species from any locality in the entire country, including Tsumeb and Kaokoveld. This piece is a highly sculptural and show display specimen of these now hard to find Malachites featuring fine quality, lustrous, chatoyant, rich emerald green prismatic crystals, forming aggregates measuring up to 2.0 cm, sitting on oxidized matrix. If you look closely, there is a slight fibrous quality to the crystals on the tips for a nice touch. I love the overall form and superb displayability of the piece. Elegant and eye-catching, and excellent quality to boot. The luster on these crystals is better than most we've had to offer from Onganja as well.
From the worldwide mineral collection of Rich ("Dick") Hauck of New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
