Item Description

Malachite specimens are not that common from this old, well-known South Australia copper mine, opened in 1845. This is an impressive, large and hefty specimen of carving-grade malachite in thick banded layers, surrrouding a crystallized vug. Masse is 1027 grams, a kilo, over 2 pounds in weight! It is eyecatching and is an important example. A very old specimen for this locality! It comes with a handwritten German label, at least 100 years old and comes from an old museum collection. Valued at $1800. It has multiple fine display possibilities.
