Item Description

An old-time classic, dramatic and colorful large malachite and azurite combination from renowned Bisbee. The striking, sculptural curved vug hosts malachite, azurite and malachite pseudomorphs after azurite. The vug was first lined with smooth banded bubbly botryoids visible along one edge. Rich blue bladed azurite coated most of the malachite botryoids next, highlighted by the impressive and colorful elongated cluster along one edge. Finally a second malachite generation preferentially pseudomorphed many of the bladed azurite clusters, particularly in the middle of the piece. Very interesting chemistry here. Comes with a label with a April,1952 date, but a specimen of this quality could be certainly much older, perhaps dating to prior to World War I. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1985.
