Item Description

An impressive, large, complete all-around malachite specimen from Katanga. This striking, wedge-shaped piece (fatter on top) consists of two generations of scintillating malachite. The body of the piece is bubbly, botryoidal malachite that look like green pillow lava. The top has a thick rind of darker green primary malachite crystals and all sides and the base have a variable covering of smaller primary malachite crystals. This striking two-sided piece has a modest bit of periphery wear on both sides and there is a contact on the base. Irregardless, this is one of the finest large Katanga malachites we have offered at auction and displays well from either side or direction. Hefty at 5.7 pounds or 2.6 kilos.
