Bizarre looking two-sided, flattened malachite from one of the copper-cobalt mines of the famous Katanga Copper Crescent of DR Congo. Surreal, FLATTENED, larger, parallel-growth, nubby, dark green malachite botryoids form the striking out edge of this uniquely sculptural piece. The outer edge looks like a curved, segmented green caterpillar! The interiors of both sides host a multitude of small light green malachite botryoids, many of which are capped with dark green malachite. The larger botryoids in the interior of one side resemble cauliflower heads with the myriad of smaller interior botryoids looking like mushrooms with dark green caps. The attachment on the base and lower on one sides reveals the distinctive, dense, multi-hued green, growth banding of the botryoids. Certainly a fantasy-like, highly unusual two-sided malachite from DR Congo.
