Malachite (unusual style, old find)

From the famous mineral mines at Ojuela, mined since the turn of the 1900s and still producing a selection of minerals today, this is a dazzling specimen of "primary" Malachite. Sharp, acicular needles form the mounded mushroom-like clusters, the largest of which is 2.1 cm across. The superb luster has a chatoyant, almost 'electric' character to it, and it really gives the green Malachite an intense, shimmery appearance. Set against the rust-colored limonitic matrix, the Malachites simply jump visually. There is even a second layer of pockets along the bottom, decorated with small Malachite sprays, that adds a very architectural look to an already outstanding aesthetic. Classic, old Ojuela pieces are always in demand, but the lustrous Malachite with such an almost 'chatoyant' shimmer makes this stand out in any case from any locality. NOTE THAT THIS WAS LABELLED AS BISBEE IN THE COLLECTION ADN WE HAVE FIXED IT TO OLD OJUELA AFTER CONSULTING OTHER EXPERTS BASED ON OUR HUNCH THAT THIS MATRIX LOOKED WRONG FOR BISBEE.  This is an old specimen Dr. Pohl bought in the 1980s and it had an older browned label price glued to the bottom. It is seemingly a very unique style of old Arizona malachite...but is instead a very old Ojuela piece. according to Dr. Peter Megaw, these clusters were refered to as "Broccoli Malachite" by miners.
