Magnetite with Quartz (rare locality piece) (collected by Doug Toland)

Item Description

The famous Epidote locality at Green Monster Mountain has been mined for many years, producing some of the finest examples of the species in the world, not just from the United States. This piece is a much rarer Magnetite specimen featuring a 1.7 cm centrallized layered "rosette" of compressed, silvery-black Magnetite crystals which are surrounded by sharp, lustrous, gemmy, slightly greenish (from Amphibole inclusions) colored Quartz crystals. Upon close inspection, one can see that some of the Quartz crystals host tiny "disc"-like crystals of Magnetite frozen inside, and we even found a few rich green colored Epidote crystals as well. Good shape overall and very showy for the material. These are RARE from Green Monster Mountain, and showy aesthetic specimens such as this are few and far between. The piece was collected over 20 years ago (1997) by the famous field collector, Doug Toland, who has collected some of the best examples of all species from this locality.
