Item Description

This is a significant and large USA specimen of magnetite, from one of the most important magnetite localities. This historic location in New York rarely gave up cabinet pieces. This would be one of the larger, richer examples. Emplaced on massive magnetite ore and a crust of white massive calcite, are shockingly lustrous, jet black cubes of magnetite to 1.5 cm across. The magnetite crystals contrast superbly with the white calcite. This is a major matrix specimen from the classic finds here of the 1990's, at this locality. This extremely fine, display quality cabinet specimen was once in the collection of the Academy of Mineralogy, New York State Museum Institute. It was obtained in exchange, for a major antique NY specimen I had many years ago. This was valued at $7500-plus.
