Item Description
Mined late 1800's to the mid-1900's, the Grace Mine produced many interesting and attractive Magnetites, most of which are rhombic dodecahedra. The largest Magnetite is 2.3 cm across, and it has modified corners and striations, which Grace Mine Magnetites are known for. An interesting historical side note is that this deposit was the first ever found using an airborne magnetometer, which makes perfect sense. These old-time, classic, striated Magnetites are rarely available now, especially with a well-defined and aesthetic crystal as this small cabinet piece has. This is an outstanding USA specimen for the species and literally is the old classic style and form that the famous mineralogists of the 1800s studied. You almost never see them for sale today. Valued $1000-1250. Richard Hauck collection, from Larry Conklin with label.
