Item Description

Simply put, some of the most classic Magnetites from North America are those from Balmat, New York. These are some of the most distinctive and eye-catching Magnetite specimens in the world due to their cubic habit. This piece is filled with rarely seen cubic crystals (with very slight tetrahexahedral modifications) on a massive Quartz matrix. I'm told that these specimens were mined in the early 1990s, and are not common on the market today. The crystals on this specimen, despite having some minr contacts, are sharp for the species, with decent luster. A nice thumbnail display specimen of this well-known material from New York. The piece comes from the collection of noted Colorado geologist Allen Heyl (for whom the species Aheylite was named) and his original collection label accompanies the piece.
