Item Description

Aggeneys is a little known South African locality, but it has produced, among other things, good combination pieces of Magnetite, Chalcopyrite, and Galena. Naturally, they are known for their superb metallic luster. While the Chalcopyrite is crudely crystallized and the sharp cubic Galena was probably cleaved during mining, the Magnetite crystals on top are very good, with only a small amount of edgewear. There are two slightly flattened Magnetite octahedra on the specimen. The largest octahedron is 1.2 cm across, with edges and corners modified by the dodecahedron, creating truncated corners and varying beveled edges. A desirable, representative specimen from this mine. Good aesthetics.
