Item Description
Typically the Magnetite specimens from this locality are closely grown together, and this is a great example of said material. These are also some of the finest quality crystals I've seen from any locality in years. The piece has decent quality, fairly sharp, semi lustrous, black, metallic, "Alpine-type" octahedra associated with minor cream colored Feldspar on matrix. The largest Magnetite crystal measures 8 mm across, which is decent size for the locality. This is one of the better specimens of this material that I've offered from this locality in a while, and despite a few nicks, a fair number of the crystals are undamaged. Keep in mind, that there are no other localities producing Magnetites of this quality today, and there are few localities in the world that have ever produced Magnetite as good as the finest pieces from Cerrro Haunaquino. Though this species is well known to collectors, it is remarkably difficult to obtain well crystallized displayable specimens of Magnetite from any locality.
