Item Description
Enechelon, intergrown, lustrous, translucent, flattened magnesite rhombs form an impressive, sculptural and rich large specimen from this famous magnesite deposit, first worked in 1870. A secondary magnesite overgrowth on one side adds character. Undoubtedly old-time material, but no proof. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2928 and acquired from Sol Shale in May, 1963. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Specimens of this size, quality and richness are seldom on the market. The piece has two fine display views. Classic and excellent Austrian magnesite.
