Macfallite (very rare) (ex MacFall Collection!)

Macfallite is a very rare calcium manganese silicate, named for the US author and amateur mineralogist Russell Patterson "Russ" MacFall. This mineral is only found in four places in the world, and certainly is a must have for any rare species collector. This piece features some well-crystallized reddish-brown groups of Macfallite associated with equally rare brownish Orientite on Calcite matrix. The piece comes from the type locality for Macfallite, the Manganese Mine in Keweenaw County, Michigan, but most importantly, it was part of Russel MacFall's personal collection! How cool to have a piece from the type locality that belonged to the namesake for the species. A significant rare specimen to be sure, that is best admired up close. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. You'd be hard-pressed to find another piece of this material out there today, as only a handful of them make their way to market every year. Valued at $850 in the inventory.
