Item Description

Lorandite is an extremely rare thallium arsenic sulfosalt found in only about a dozen places in the world. Some of the best / most well-known examples of the species are those from the type locality in North Macedonia. This piece features small, sharp, carmine colored crystals of Lorandite with an ochre-yellow powder coating associated with minor Orpiment and Goethite according to the label. If you collect rarities, thallium minerals or species from the type locality, don't miss out on this one. Lorandite was named in the 1890 after Professor Baron Loránd von Eötvös of Budapest. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13114). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
