Item Description

An old classics metallic species from a very important historic locaiton in Austria, which includes the TYPE LOCALITY for the species! Solid, small cabinet specimen composed completely of integrown Lollingite crystals. Metallic, lustrous, and striated where exposed, the Lollingites can reach up to 7-8 mm in size. The Lolling Mining District in Austria contains three small localites, one of which is the Wolf Mine, the Type Locality for Lollingite. There is burnt-orange, microcrystalline Siderite to add an attractive contrast in color and form. This is a fine Lollingite specimen from what might very well be the Type Locality, or very close. Formerly in the Taldino Testone collection. 538 grams - heavy! Never seen one from here, so rich and heavy, for sale. Named in 1845, for material from a mine in this area, of which this may be the same locaiton or on enearby - in any case, the same deposit.
