Item Description
Despite its rather simplistic chemistry, Lithiophosphate is an extremely rare mineral, only found in 7 localities according to the entry for the species on mindat.org. The species was first discovered at the Okhmyl'k Mt locality in Russia, but the best examples (albeit micro crystals) are those from the famed Foote Mine in North Carolina. This piece features a few fine quality, very sharp, well-formed, lustrous, gemmy, colorless crystal measuring up to approximately 2 mm, sitting on white Feldspar matrix. The habit is a simple orthorhombic prism with a "chisel"-shaped termination, identical to Topaz. This is the ONLY specimen of this incredibly rare mineral that we've ever had to offer in the auctions, and if you collect rare minerals, this is something that I'm sure most of you don't have in your collections, so don't miss out. From the collection Jack Eaker (whose label says the specimen was identified by Jason Smith).
