Liroconite (classic material)

Item Description

Liroconite is a rare hydrated copper arsenate species, and the best examples were found in Cornwall over 100 years ago. They are a must-have for any fan of Cornish minerals, as their superb color, crystal form and scarcity is a great combination of rarity and beauty in the mineral world. This piece is a hard to find specimen from Wheal Unity featuring intense green-blue colored crystals of Liroconite on oxidized matrix. Upon close inspection there are some eye-catching, lustrous, striated crystal faces that can be seen, but for the most part, the Liroconite is contacted in several spots, so it's not completely pristine. Still a very attractive example of this highly sought after material.
Originally from the collection of Paul A. Lowe, and later from the collection Dr. Robert ("Rob") Bowell, a geochemist and adjunct professor in Geochemistry and Mineralogy at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Rob has a background in applied geology in tropical and deeply weathered terrains, he also has done mining consulting in the fields of due diligence, financial and technical audits, process chemistry, environmental geochemistry, environmental engineering and mineralogy.
