Item Description

Liroconite from Cornwall is one of those Holy Grails for any collector, and as they were found in the mid-1800s, not a lot ever come available for sale. This piece, though small, is rich overall and has crystals of a fantastic quality in sharpness and blue color saturation. Trust me - in person, there is no color quite like this in the Mineral Kingdom. The closest is fake copper sulfate grown from the Smithsonian chemistry lab kits. Liroconite of this quality has not been found in over 125 years, and needless to say, specimens for the collector get far and few between. Although there are some damaged zones, there are many good areas too, protected in the folds of matrix here. This is more than a reference example, and is a quite display-worthy thumbnail. I PAID myself $1000 for it, from an old collection, 2 years ago. Valued $1800-2000 I have seen miniatures with more rock matrix and a lot less coverage ROUTINELY priced at 2000-4000 euros at the Munich show with a prominent specialist British dealer who, like me, buys all that turn up in old collections as any liroconite is a good one in our books.
